European stocks closed firmly higher on Thursday as markets reconsidered the impact that economic policies from Trump’s second term will have on the European corporate sector. The Stoxx 50 jumped 1.1% to close at 4,851, and the Stoxx 600 added 0.8% to close at 511. At the same time, investors positioned for the expected quarter-point rate cut by the Federal Reserve after the closing bell, in addition to insights on how the FOMC sees the balance of risks on inflation and unemployment. On the corporate front, luxury and tech giants booked sharp gains to trim the selloffs from the prior session. LVMH, Hermes, and SAP all added more than 3%. In turn, Munich Re closed 0.3% higher after raising its insurance revenue forecast for the year. Also, BBVA added 4.2% as Spain’s competition authority is likely to need more time to decide on the bank’s merger with Sabadell. On the monetary policy front, the BoE cut its Bank Rate by 25bps, as expected, while the Norges Bank held its rate unchanged.
